What's new? This list marks the launch of our Italian selection, delicious red and white wines which we have laboured up dozens of hills, in Tuscany and Umbria, to taste and buy. Considering the Etruscans were cultivating grapes in Chianti as long ago as 500BC, you might say we’ve been a bit slow to offer Italian wine, but better late than never, eh?
Tuscany and Umbria are huge wine-producing areas, so we decided to focus on two regions. San Gimignano is described as the pearl of Italian art. Less well known are the wines made on the hillsides which surround the city. Those produced by Niccolai-Palagetto typify the best of Chiantishire.
Meanwhile, down in Umbria, at the heart of the Orvieto Classico region, Le Velette has been producing wonderful wines for two centuries. We’ve picked out two, but there are five or six more cooling in its Etruscan cellars. …Boy, don’t writin’ make you thirsty… |
