Franck Bonville Brut Sélection, Blanc de Blancs: The house of Franck Bonville, in the heart of the small town of Avize, is a great deal more posh than most of the establishments we visit, but no less friendly or craftsmanlike for all that. This is a great Bonville blanc de blancs — 100% chardonnay, excellent fruit and fizz, a slightly floral bouquet and a long, full finish. A refreshing touch of grapefruit on the nose just adds to its complexity and charm. Ideal as a pre-prandial ice-breaker, you could also give serious thought to enjoying it alongside some Cornish Yarg or a slightly pungent Brie. What’s imperative is that when there’s a celebration in the offing, you have at least three bottles to hand.
